Hello Wonderful Solo and Soulful Mama,
Welcome to this forum dedicated to single mamas that rock!
It’s time to put soul into solo mamahood!
I’m Ruth Oshikanlu
RN (Adult) RM RHV BSc (Hons) PG Dip PGDip MSc QN FiHV FRCN
I’m an award-winning, nationally recognised expert in nursing, midwifery, health visiting and parenting.
I’m also author of Tune In To Your Baby: Because Babies Don’t Come With An Instruction Manual – a guide to parenting from conception onward. For over two decades I’ve had the privilege and honour of supporting thousands of women at all stages of their parenting journey from before conception, through pregnancy, labour and childbirth and beyond.
But none of that matters! I want to focus on what we have in common.
I’m a single mama like you!
I love my son to bits and pieces. He’s my world.
And I know that you love your child(ren) too!
I remember how I felt when I became a single parent, like a total failure!!!
I was raised by two loving parents and did not know many single parents. However, following a relationship breakdown in pregnancy, I came home with a premature infant terrified and ashamed that I was going to raise my son alone. It took me while to settle as a single mama, but I was determined to ensure that my son was happy.
I’ve been a single parent for thirteen years. Yay! And we’re both thriving.
It’s been challenging. And as my son has recently become a teenager, it may get even more challenging.
And that’s why I created this platform.
My wish for you
It’s very easy to feel isolated because you’re a single mum.
But although a lone parent, you’re not alone.
I also do not want you to park your dreams because you have a child/children.
You can aspire and achieve as a parent and in your other roles.
That’s why I want to share my story and that of solo and soulful mamas like me.
I don’t want you to settle in your circumstances. I totally believe in the power of stories. By sharing the stories of soulful single mamas like you, my hope is that it will inspire you to be the best you can be achieve your dreams whilst enjoying your role as a single parent.
My life’s purpose is to be the woman I wished I had when I most needed a woman with me. I am passionate about parenting and know firsthand how challenging parenting can be, especially as a single parent.
I feel proud to know so many passionate single mums who are making a difference, shattering glass ceilings and achieving in their various fields, like I believe you too can do.
Do listen to their stories. See what you can glean from it to help you become the best mum that I believe you can be.
Much love and abundance,
